Respite!

Well, we got an email Tuesday night asking us if we'd do respite for a little boy from Thursday to Sunday. He is 2 years old, and he has his TPR hearing on Friday and then his foster family is moving on Saturday. The kicker is that he doesn't go to daycare, so he would be home with me. Also he has no visits with his bio family for that time.

So, of course we said yes. :)

He came over today and he is ADORABLE. And, this child is busy. I mean, I don't think I ever saw him sit still except while he was eating or restrained in his car seat. He runs and climbs like a champ. He loves our dogs and cats, and when he doesn't see them where they are supposed to be (which is apparently wherever they were when he first saw them), he asks about them. And he gives them kisses which is totally awesome. I'm not sure on his exact age, but he has got to be pretty close to Y's age.

When he got here I put him down for a nap (he had fallen asleep on the car ride over). Well, first we met all the dogs and cats, and petted them. Then we read a story. Then he had a nap. I turned the baby monitor on so I could hear him. About an hour after I laid him down, I heard a little cough, but then nothing. Then I looked up from my book and saw him creeping slowly down the hallway. When he saw me he got a terrified look on his face and turned and ran back into the bedroom. It was sooo funny! I of course told him it was OK if he was awake, I just didn't hear him. I didn't even hear him open the bedroom door or anything.

He plays really well with our boys. Personality wise he is similar to C, only with no tantrums (so far at least). We went to the park while D was at football practice and my husband had to go do some work, so I was there alone with the three of them for a while. It's hard to keep an eye on three kids when the park is crowded! He and Y were running at the park and chasing each other, and suddenly started running to each other. Neither of them swerved and they bonked heads at full speed. Y fell apart and was crying a lot, but the little guy just kind of cried for about 5 seconds and then got over it. He's a tough cookie, and definitely all boy. :)

His foster mom says he usually goes to bed at 8:30 or 9, which I was kind of worried about because our boys go to bed at 7 or 7:30. Well on the way home from the park at 7:30-ish he was rubbing his eyes and trying to fall asleep. They are all three in the same bedroom and went down tonight at the same time without incident - yay! Our boys are great sleepers and so that always helps I think.

Tomorrow the two little boys will go to daycare. I don't think I can stay home with the little guy alone...I mean we have plenty of toys and space, but this child likes to move around. So I think I might take him swimming, or to the museum or something. We just have to get out of this house.

So far it has been a lot of fun, even though he seriously wears me out with all his activity. Just watching him play makes me want to take a nap. :)

Also, he adores my husband. It's so sweet the way that children gravitate towards men that pay attention to them. Last time we went to the park all these different kids were talking to my husband and asking him to watch them do stuff. The little guy also gravitates towards my husband. I don't think his foster mom is married so that might factor into it. Once my husband showed up at the park today, I was pretty much ignored by the little guy. :o) Which I guess I'm OK with, seeing as how my husband is so awesome.
