Perceptions

I am not a good actress.

I am also not what I would call socially graceful.

I sometimes am too outspoken, especially in what I view as "business" relationships (which includes service providers in the boys' case). With "friends" and many times family, I am too passive.

Sometimes I don't like the person that other people see as "me" and I feel like what I see myself as and what they see do not match up. And sometimes it goes the other way - people think I'm way better than I know I am.

Isn't that interesting?

It's hard to find balance. I am hoping that with some sort of break from the kids that I can have some more adult time, like spend some more time with my friends, maybe go to coffee once a week or something, you know what I mean? And also spend more time in the Bible and more time with God.

Sometimes I feel like I'm just in my own little world and I think it makes me not be so great of a person. Or at least, it doesn't make me any better.

Random, I know. But just some thoughts.

woah! I'm totally opposite (outspoken with family, too passive in "business" relationships), but can completely relate...weird, as I had never though about it, but very true...and frustrating!

  2. Sometimes our concept of self may not be fully comprehended. After all, it is shaped by our thoughts (no matter how dark!) and our experiences viewed from our own eyes, not those of others. So, we may harbor our own prejudice about our self-concept. We may not particularly be willing to accept praise because of our own perfectionism, knowing that only perfection is worthy of praise. We certainly cannot depend on flattering words to base our complete concept because people can be too nice. So, what is the final solution? Maybe being true to what we hold right and true and when we don't, realize that God loves us and sees our flaws through the eyes of Jesus and His atoning sacrifice. You, my daughter, are His (and one of mine) most valued prizes.

  3. Sign me up for a coffee date, please. I will be prepared for random bluntness in case you feel so inclined. :)

  4. You are definitely right, Dad. :) Thank you for that!

And Lana, I will for sure be calling you up. Probably this coming week sometime!
