Pink eye

We have it. Or, more importantly, 14 month old Y has it. How, you say, did he get such a fine infection? From his mother, who has had pink eye since last Monday. Now she has it in both eyes, I guess.

I have no idea how I'm going to contain these germs. Guess it's time to take out stock in Purell. How the heck do I keep him from rubbing his eyes, which I know from experience is what one WANTS to do when one has pink eye!

Going to try to take him to the doctor tomorrow (which, by the way, bio mom requested - "Can you please take him to the doctor? I don't want the other kids to get it" guess what, ME EITHER! and does anyone else see the irony in this?). We are supposed to get respite care from Saturday to Sunday...but the family that is watching the boys has nine children of their own (yes, NINE - 6 adopted, 3 fosters) and I will completely understand if they don't want those germs in their house. I shudder at the thought.

Dang. I hate pink eye. Sorry to all our friends that we saw yesterday. I hope he did not have it then.

The news

In the spirit of this being my blog, and knowing that if anything were to happen I'd be blogging about it, I am sharing my news. So, several weeks ago I started feeling sick. We have been so lucky this year, we really haven't been sick at all which is really saying something considering the number of people who live in this house. Birth Story

Before I worry all of you, I want to let you know that at 5:24 a.m. on Thursday, January 17th, I gave birth to a 3 pound baby boy. He is healthy and doing awesome so far. I was exactly 29 weeks into my pregnancy. This is my birth story. The evening of the 15/16th I was having some contractions. Nothing too crazy though. The morning of the 16th I complained to Brian that every time I moved in bed I had a contraction.  After what happened last week (having contractions, went to L&D, nothing was wrong) I just assumed it was basically the same. The 16th was my 30th birthday.  I felt pretty crappy all day.  I assumed I was either starting to get sick (since my 3 little ones had been sick) or else that my body was working hard to fight off the sickness. I went to the Social Security Office to request new SS cards for the kids, came home and took a nap, and swept and mopped the kitchen floor. Good news/bad news

Ben has been putting himself to sleep for nap times! Can you believe it? If you would have told me a week ago that Ben would be napping on his own right now I would have laughed in your face and said no way! NO WAY! Yesterday he took THREE naps on his own, the first two were an hour and 15 minutes and the last one was only 40 minutes, but hey beggars can't be choosers! I just nursed him, put him down in his bassinet awake, patted him a minute, then walked away. No crying, no fussing, and when I left he was awake. It's a miracle!  I think it has really helped that he has apparently developed a great love for his middle and ring fingers, and sucks on them regularly. It looks like he's signing "I love you". :) The bad news is, he has a cold so he's not really sleeping any better at night.  Last night he was up 8 times between 8 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. this morning.
